FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New Website Offers Clean Energy Data, Facts, Employment Information

Just in Time for Energy Crisis, CREST.ORG Launches with Over 3,000 Related Links

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Apr. 23 -/E-Wire/-- Renewable Energy Policy Project (REPP-CREST) announced today the launch of a new resource website for journalists, business, government and the public on energy issues. First launched in 1994, the redesigned site, www.crest.org, provides information about renewable energy and energy efficiency for visitors ranging from beginner to expert. Crest.org is powered by solar energy and is hosted by REPP-CREST's community partner, SolarHost.

"With over 100,000 unique visitors a month, CREST's website is the most popular non-governmental site on renewable energy and sustainable development," said Mary Kathryn Campbell, REPP-CREST's publications and Internet director. "The new site's easy searching and clean navigation elements provide easy access to learning about these complicated topics."

The REPP-CREST site relies upon a customized content management system that searches six years of archived discussion about topics as diverse as strawbale housing to bioenergy. Quick facts, story ideas, news articles, an interactive event calendar, background on energy alternatives and more complement the new look and feel of the site.

The website offers basic information for beginners and will highlight writings from throughout the community. "For anyone interested in what's happening today, especially with recent events in California, crest.org provides the tools and information people need to make decisions," Campbell said. "Whether they're reading up on energy efficiency in their homes, learning about energy and the environment or looking for the latest research, the site will serve as an invaluable resource. Our goal is to get the message across that electricity causes environmental impacts, some much worse than others."

Among other tools, www.crest.org offers the Global Energy Marketplace (GEM) database, which holds over 3,000 links to documents and renewable energy technology providers, and a lively "Ask the Experts" column, answering questions from students, homeowners and policymakers.

"We're happy to continue the tradition of being purveyors of unparalleled peer-reviewed research from REPP, as well as serving as a platform for new comers and experts to talk about crucial energy issues," Campbell said.

The site's redesign and launch were made possible by the generous support of the Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation.

REPP-CREST explores the emerging relationships among markets, policy and public demand for renewable energy.
