FMC and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

Launch New Bird Conservation Partnership

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WASHINGTON, Apr. 24 -/E-Wire/-- FMC Corporation and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation are pleased to announce a new habitat conservation program benefitting birds, with a particular focus on prairie species and waterfowl. This partnership is the largest corporate investment for birds in the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's history.

FMC Corporation will contribute up to $1 million each year for 3 years dedicated to the conservation of priority bird habitats. Incentives for conservation on private agriculture lands will be a key objective of the program along with building upon partnerships with farmers to establish bird conservation demonstration sites and other educational opportunities. A welcome boost from the private sector, these funds will help implement priority projects identified by coalitions such as Partners in Flight and the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. In particular, the focus will be on flagship species such as the declining Greater and Lesser Prairie Chicken and Sage Grouse, along with their disappearing habitats.

"Instead of investing this money on scientific studies that could collect dust while sitting on a shelf, we wanted to put the money where it would make the most difference -- on the ground," said Edward T. Cherry, director of Government Regulations at FMC Corporation.

"Through the bird conservation program, FMC is stepping up to the plate and becoming a leader for corporate stewardship of birds and their habitats," said John Berry, executive director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. "We commend FMC's initiative in establishing a program that represents one of the most significant corporate commitments to bird conservation. This support will also be used as an incentive to others interested in bird conservation and it is anticipated that FMC's investment will result in a minimum of $9 million dedicated to on-the-ground efforts."

FMC is one of the world's leading producers of chemicals and machinery for industry and agriculture. FMC employs approximately 15,000 people at more than 90 manufacturing facilities and mines in more than 25 countries. The company divides its businesses into five segments: Energy Systems, Food and Transportation Systems, Agricultural Products, Specialty Chemicals and Industrial Chemicals.

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is a nonprofit organization that promotes healthy populations of fish, wildlife, and plants by attracting diverse investments to conservation.
