ENSR International Expedites Superfund/MCP Process for Naval Air Station (NAS) Remediation and Reuse
WESTFORD,, MASSACHUSETTS, Apr. 30 -/E-Wire/-- ENSR International, a leading environmental consulting firm, is completing $8 million worth of assignments for Superfund and Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) remediation and support at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station, South Weymouth, MA. The activities performed by ENSR, under a multi-year subcontract with Tetra Tech NUS, involved environmental site assessment, clean up and closure of approximately 34 areas that will eventually be transferred to the community. Current development plans include residential, commercial and open space uses.
Mark Kauffman, P.E., ENSR's Project Manager, states "With the heightened congressional and community awareness regarding the transfer and reuse of former military bases, ENSR was able to provide the technical expertise needed to support both Superfund and MCP site assessment and remediation work for NAS South Weymouth, ensuring compliance with environmental assessment, cleanup and closure requirements."
During the past year, ENSR's team of engineers, geologist, chemists, risk assessors and other professionals worked approximately 400 hours per week to collect, analyze and provide expert reports and documentation by assessing soil, water, sediment and biota. ENSR will continue to provide support to the U.S. Navy on this site throughout 2001.
As an experienced government contractor, ENSR has worked on a large number of complex federal contracts for many federal agencies: Department of Defense, Department of Energy and U.S. Postal Service, and currently has a GSA contract vehicle (multi-year, $50 million) under which it is performing a wide variety of environmental projects for these and other federal agencies.
