International Audit Protocol Consortium Celebrates 5th Anniversary
Fortune 500 Companies Convene to Promote International Environmental Excellence
MASSACHUSETTS, WESTFORD, May. 10 -/E-Wire/-- The North American chapter of the International Audit Protocol Consortium (IAPC) has reached its 5th year milestone with a membership of 57 Fortune 500 companies. ENSR International's IAPC is an industry-based group of multi-national corporations dedicated to promoting
excellence in global environmental, health, and safety, (EH&S;) auditing and environmental management. The European chapter of the IAPC, formed in 1998, comprises 17 member companies.
As members of ENSR's International Audit Protocol Consortium, multinational
companies share the cost of developing country-specific EH&S; audit protocols. The audit protocols provide a cost-effective solution to companies seeking to understand their regulatory obligations at international locations. Clients use the audit protocol documents not only for corporate assurance audits, but also for self-assessments, audit and regulatory training, due diligence, and the development of environmental management systems.
To date, the IAPC has sponsored the creation of audit protocols for 30 countries, including 10 in Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, etc.),10 in Europe (Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, and others), and 7 in the Americas (such as Brazil,
Mexico, and Canada). "Our management system requires that mechanisms are in place to ensure compliance with applicable regulations in all countries where we operate," said Dieter Hiller, Environmental Manager, Eastern Hemisphere, Schlumberger. "We have made the
protocols available to all locations through our international network. They are a valuable resource in many aspects of our planning and provide an effective tool to achieve
one of our most important environmental goals."
Through its twice-a-year meetings, the IAPC also provides a forum for member companies to discuss important environmental management issues facing global
companies and to share best practices and lessons learned in international EH&S; auditing. Recent meeting topics have included: challenges in auditing joint ventures; controlling audit program costs; EH&S; performance metrics; and legal protections abroad for audit findings.
"The information sharing that takes place at these meetings is unique and
priceless," according to Mr. Halley Moriyama, ENSR's Vice President in charge of administering
the IAPC. "These meetings have proven to be one of the most valuable benefits of membership," said Mr. Moriyama.
