NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW DURHAM, May. 31 -/E-Wire/-- Frank R. Alix, chairman and CEO of Powerspan Corp., testified before U. S. Alix testified on Powerspan's Electro-Catalytic Oxidation(TM) technology, a multi-pollutant control process that reduces sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, mercury, and fine particulate matter emissions from coal-fired power plants. In addition, Alix addressed the important role that innovative technology can play in further enhancing the environment.

"I believe that increasing our energy supply, and at the same time, improving our environment is not only possible but also imperative for the future well-being of our society," Alix said. "Given time and the right regulatory framework, the technology community will find an economical way to achieve the desired environmental benefits."

Powerspan's technology was referenced in the President's National Energy Policy released on May 17. In highlighting clean coal technologies, the document referenced pilot testing of a state-of-the-art technology at a FirstEnergy Corp. plant that demonstrated reductions in nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, total particulate matter, and mercury.
