TO BUSINESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDITOR:

CH2M HILL to Honor Royal Dutch Shell Chairman

Moody-Stuart Has Led Petrochem Company's Landmark Shift

Toward Cleaner Operations, Renewable Energy

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WASHINGTON, Jun. 19 -/E-Wire/-- CH2M HILL will present its Building a Better World award to Royal Dutch/Shell Group Chairman Sir Mark Moody-Stuart during a reception and ceremony June 21 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern daylight time at the Smithsonian Castle in Washington.

CH2M HILL presents the Building a Better World award to a business leader or company whose vision and actions make a significant difference toward improving the lives and prospects of people and society. William Ruckleshaus, the former Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, received the first award in 1998.

Moody-Stuart, a 34-year Shell veteran, has engineered a major shift in operating philosophy at the industry-leading petrochemical and energy firm. During his watch, Shell companies improved the environmental performance of its core petrochemical-production and energy businesses. The company also launched significant renewable-energy research and development efforts, including work on fuel cells, biomass fuels and wind generation. Shell companies also has developed management frameworks to support its shift toward more environmentally efficient practices and wiser use of natural resources.

In addition, Moody-Stuart co-chairs the G8 Renewable Energy Task Force with Italian Environment Ministry Director General, Corrado Clini. Established during the G8 summit in July of 2000, the Task Force is forming innovative approaches and strategies for deploying renewable-energy technologies more effectively, as part of a balanced energy portfolio, in both developed and developing countries.

Ralph R. Peterson, CH2M HILL's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said "As a corporate leader, Sir Mark understands that financial, social and environmental decisions are of equal importance to a company's long-term success. He sees the tremendous potential Shell has for improving social and environmental conditions around the world, and he has worked tirelessly to realize that potential throughout the company."

In the 1980s and early 1990s, environmental and human-rights groups criticized Shell for company actions related to the environment and human rights. Under Moody-Stuart's direction, Shell responded to the issues and implemented a variety of programs to address these environmental issues and improve relations with the communities in which it works.

Shell also was among the first firms in its industry to acknowledge connections between industrial greenhouse gas emissions and global climate change. Today, sustainable development has emerged throughout Shell as an underlying strategy for growth, and is being integrated into everything Shell companies do - in oil and gas, and in renewable energy.

Performance tracking is an important part of Shell's commitment to eco-efficiency. The company gathers and shares its environmental performance data with the public in The Shell Report. Visitors to the environmental performance section of the company's Web site, http://www.shell.com will find an electronic version of the report. The site contains information including amounts of pollutant emissions to air and water, the chemical content of waste streams from manufacturing processes, and the number and location of oil spills. Shell's latest environmental report chronicles important achievements including:

-- Greenhouse gas emissions 11 percent below 1990 levels -- Volume of oil spills halved -- Cost of carbon included in major project decisions -- Global biodiversity expectations set

The performance report also includes social-impact information, such as compliance with international child-labor standards and results of its screening process for avoiding vendors who use underage workers. To help ensure the accuracy and integrity of its reports, Shell has data verified by independent analysts from KPMG and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. A printed version of The Shell Report also is available.

Moody-Stuart has been widely recognized by business, nonprofit and environmental-advocacy groups for his innovative leadership and vision. He won Tomorrow Magazine's 1999 Environmental Leadership Award, and on May 18 of this year, he accepted on behalf of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group the World Environment Center's 2001 Gold Medal Award, which recognizes Shell's sustainable-development efforts.

Moody-Stuart, 60, has served as Shell's chairman since 1998. He lives in Sussex, England, is married and has four children.
