TO BUSINESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDITORS:

Fuel Cell Reports Feature Startech Environmental's Starcell System

WILTON, CONNECTICUT, Jun. 28 -/E-Wire/-- Startech Environmental Corp. (Nasdaq: STHK), the world leader in plasma waste remediation and recycling technology, announced today that it was featured in the May 2001 issue of the Fuel Cell Industry Report, a Scientific American Newsletter publication, and was also the subject of an article in the April 2001 issue of Fuel Cell Technology News. The feature articles illustrate Startech's ability to create a cheap and never-ending source of hydrogen from the wastes of the world using a combination of the Company's principal product, the Plasma Converter(TM) and its patented hydrogen separation technology called StarCell(TM). More information on StarCell can be found in Company Press Releases dated March 8, 2001 and March 15, 2000.

Joseph F. Longo, President of Startech said, "Due to the increased interest and importance of energy issues and the Plasma Converter's unique ability to create an extremely cheap and abundant source of a clean synthesis gas, rich in hydrogen, from waste, we have needed to focus a little more on alternate fuel and energy production. We are exploring many kinds of business arrangements with a variety of interested parties involved in direct hydrogen engines, fuel cells, and many types of alternate fuel production. We are excited about these new opportunities and hope to have more specific news very soon."

About Startech Environmental Corp: Startech is an environmental equipment company whose Plasma Converter is essentially an electrochemical system that, while safely destroying wastes, even hazardous wastes, converts those materials into useful and valuable commodity products. It does this economically, efficiently, with relatively few moving parts, and without combustion. The prime mover in the Plasma Converter process is the chemical dissociation (decomposition) of the feed materials after which their elemental components (atoms) are reformed into useful commodities. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has designated materials, even if they may have once been regarded as wastes, or hazardous wastes, undergoing such a recycling process, no longer as wastes, but as "feedstocks."
