Web-Enabled Compliance Reporting Using Real-Time Data Introduced at United States Army Facility
VIRGINIA, HERNDON, Nov. 7 -/E-Wire/-- ESP (Environmental Software Providers), developer of the opsEnvironmental⢠suite of environmental compliance software products, and EWA Environmental Technologies of Herndon, Virginia recently demonstrated an important innovation in automated environmental compliance management at one of the U.S. Army's largest production plants.
The demonstration, conducted at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in southwestern Virginia, linked ESP's opsWater⢠compliance module to remotely monitored environmental parameters from a real-time data acquisition system based on a Wonderware InTouch HMI⢠control system and IndustrialSQL⢠data historian. The ESP/EWA collaboration is part of an ongoing initiative by the Army to demonstrate improved environmental performance management and compliance at its industrial production facilities through the deployment of real-time and Web-enabled monitoring and control technologies. Called the Radford Environmental Development and Management Program or REDMAP, the system has helped plant personnel to produce significant improvements in environmental and operational performance, enabling Radford to win Army and Virginia state government environmental awards for three consecutive years.
"Enterprise-wide access to real-time performance information through the Web has been a real benefit to all levels at the Radford plant, from wastewater treatment plant operators to the facility commander", said Dick Friedel, EWA Vice President. "Integration of the REDMAP data into an automated compliance management tool like opsWater is a logical step which we think will further enhance Radford's excellent environmental track record."
Radford now has the ability to electronically generate and populate its monthly Virginia Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) with automatically calculated values for flow, pH and temperature drawn from the REDMAP monitoring and data acquisition system. The report and associated data can be both accessed and edited by authorized users on standard Web-browser-equipped workstations. This new capability is expected to result in both labor savings and improved accuracy in Radford's compliance reporting.
David Cox, Vice President of Sales at ESP, noted that the project represents a significant step in the evolution of environmental information management systems. "This project has demonstrated that the United States Army can use opsEnvironmental to efficiently and accurately generate compliance reports from disparate and remote data, saving considerable time and resources for Army environmental staff. We are pleased to work with EWA to execute this project, and look forward to providing continued environmental management capabilities to the United States Army in the future."
