Windswept Environmental Group, Inc. Announces First Quarter Results; Estimates Record Revenues for Month of October 2001

BAY SHORE, NEW YORK, Nov. 9 -/E-Wire/-- Windswept Environmental Group, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:) today announced operating results for the thirteen weeks ended October 2, 2001. Revenues increased $4,689,910 or 154% to $7,735,074 for the thirteen weeks ended October 2, 2001 from $3,045,164 for the thirteen weeks ended October 3, 2000. Net income for the thirteen weeks ended October 2, 2001 was $763,153 or $.02 per common share compared to net loss of ($32,254) or ($.00) per common share for the thirteen weeks ended October 3, 2000. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased to $1,392,277 for the thirteen weeks ended October 2, 2001 from $271,186 for the thirteen weeks ended October 3, 2000. In addition, the Company recorded a non-cash charge related to the treatment of a put agreement on shares of stock and stock options held by an officer of the Company of $240,445 for the thirteen weeks ended October 2, 2001 as compared to a non-cash benefit of $61,728 for the thirteen weeks ended October 3, 2000. The increase in revenues and profitability for the thirteen weeks ended October 2, 2001 is primarily attributable to the successful completion of a fungal remediation contract in Houston and work performed in downtown Manhattan related to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

Michael O'Reilly, the Company's CEO, stated, "I am very pleased to report these excellent first quarter results to the Company's shareholders. As an emergency and catastrophe response company, we are subject to fluctuations in revenue that are a function of the occurrences of those types of events. We have structured our Company, through our staffing and training, certification processes and marketing efforts, to be a first responder to such events. When incidents such as the tropical storm in Houston earlier in the year or the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center on September 11 occur, our Company is positioned to quickly acquire projects and respond to most of the client's remediation needs within a very short period of time.

"In the case of the tropical storm in Houston, the Company was selected to perform mold remediation services that resulted from the related widespread flooding. We were selected based upon our experience in that field as well as our reputation for successfully completing large projects. The Houston project generated revenues of approximately $1.5 million in the first quarter. In the case of the World Trade Center attack, the incident occurred in our own back yard. Once again, our reputation within the industry, contacts within the metropolitan area of New York and, most importantly, our ability to mobilize a very large, trained work force in a short period of time were instrumental in the acquisition of the work. In the period from September 13, 2001 through October 2, 2001, revenues from World Trade Center related cleanups were approximately $2.5 million and encompassed work performed for, among others, Bank of New York, American International Realty (a subsidiary of AIG), HSBC Bank, St. John's University and Consolidated Edison.

"The scope and magnitude of future work to be performed as a result of the recent terrorist acts is difficult to estimate. However, I can comment on the estimated impact that these incidents have had on the month of October revenues. The Company continued World Trade Center related cleanup projects for its larger customers and also acquired smaller projects as well. Additionally, the Company responded to customer requests for anthrax testing and cleanups, in particular, Governor Pataki's office in Manhattan. The Company estimates that the revenue generated in the month of October 2001 principally as a result of World Trade Center related cleanups and, to a much lesser extent, anthrax related work will exceed $7 million.'
