Powerful Groups Ally to Pass Steinberg Anti-Sprawl Measure

Sacramento Valley Residents for Regional Solutions Forms Behind AB 680

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, Nov. 27 -/E-Wire/-- Wednesday: A new coalition announced today that it had collected more than 70 letters of endorsement in only six weeks for a cutting edge state bill that would limit urban sprawl in the Sacramento region. Sacramento Valley Residents for Regional Solutions marks perhaps the first time neighborhood groups, environmentalists, housing organizations, small business, and labor have united around a regional development issue in such a coherent manner. AB 680 (Steinberg) would redistribute new sales tax in the six county Sacramento region in a manner that promotes smart growth, increases equity in the region, and fosters cooperation in the region. The two-year bill must pass out of the Assembly by the end of January.

"We are coming together to fight for fairness and a smarter way to grow in the Sacramento region," said Chris Jones, a Board member with ACORN, and a leader in the coalition.
