Developing Housing in Harmony with the Environment is the Wave of the Future, Say Economists at Clayton Research
CANADA, ONTARIO, TORONTO, Dec. 6 -/E-Wire/-- Planners and municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area can learn lessons from recent trends in housing development in Seattle, according to economists at Clayton Research.
"In Toronto we simply don't have to look at housing development vs. environmental protection as an 'either-or' choice," said Dr. Frank Clayton, President, "planned new communities in Seattle demonstrate clearly that new communities can be environmentally friendly." This mutuality of interest has yet to reach the public forum in Canada, he added.
Dr. Clayton also noted that the City of Toronto has some very clear options for successful economic development. "The economic health and growth of downtown Toronto is dependent on improved automobile as well as transit capacity. Double decking the Gardner Expressway should be considered as a way to improve auto access rather than spending a fortune on buying the Gardner as City planners propose."
These opinions were revealed today in a new edition of Clayton Housing Report.
