Advanced Energy Research Names New Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Jack Durham to Run TrueFuel' Development

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA, Jan. 7 -/E-Wire/-- Advanced Energy Research Corporation today announced the appointment of Dr. Jack Durham as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Durham developed TrueFuel' for AERC. TrueFuel is an alternative fuel, similar to synthetic gas or Syngas, but with more hydrogen content. TrueFuel offers a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels. Dr. Durham was with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for 27 years, entering as a senior research chemist and quickly becoming a science program manager. Dr. Durham is a physical chemist with training and experience in surface chemistry, catalysis, photochemistry, and dispersed particles. He earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of New Brunswick, Canada. Dr. Durham was the science advisor to the EPA Administrator on the air pollution risks of 789 oil wells set afire by Iraq in Kuwait. After leaving EPA, he consulted for companies needing science advice in fire suppression, alternative energy development, and 3rd-party product and management registrations.

"Under my technological leadership, we expect to make TrueFuel the leading source of alternative energy," Dr. Durham said. "TrueFuel has a high potential to displace other fuel technologies, including solar cells, as the fuel of choice for the world's new wave of independent, small energy district systems. We believe that TrueFuel is the first bridge to a local, renewable hydrogen energy economy. TrueFuel will replace fossil fuels by operating almost seamlessly with the World's existing inventory of engines and industrial heating devices."

At the EPA, Dr. Durham managed many key research projects and programs in air pollution, advanced and new fuel technologies, acidic deposition, and global change. The projects and programs relevant to fuel gases include global climate change, environmental problems in advanced coal, oil shale, and petroleum fuel liquefaction and gasification in surface vessels and in-situ. Also, he managed programs that evaluated commercial forestry for producing wood to replace coal in power plants, harvesting and burning charred wood from forest fires to fuel small turbine generators connected to the electric power grid, gasifying biomass to produce fuel gases, digesting biomass and animal waste to produce methane, capturing garbage landfill gases for fuel cells, extracting methane dissolved in ocean water for powering engines, and a variety of ways to convert waste (e.g., used rubber tires) to clean fuels for fuel cells and engines.
