AT&T; Announces Industrial Ecology Faculty Fellowship Winners

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Jan. 16 -/E-Wire/-- For the eighth consecutive year, AT&T; has selected researchers from six leading universities to be the recipients of AT&T;'s Industrial Ecology Faculty Fellowships. The universities receiving grants for the 2001 program are:

· Carnegie Mellon University for "Economic, Energy, and Environmental Implications of Wired versus Wireless Data Networks";

· The University of California, Berkeley for "Case Studies of Telework's Environmental Implications";

· The University of California, Irvine for "A Case Study in Industrial Ecology at UCI: Assessing the Impacts of Lead Use in the Electronics Industry";

· The University of Massachusetts, Amherst for "Supernetworks and the Environment: Foundations and a Virtual Center";

· The University of Michigan for "Life Cycle Assessment of E-Publishing and Digital Libraries: Scholarly Books and E-Book Reading Devices"; and,

· The University of Missouri-Rolla for "Artifact System Reengineering: An Approach to Study Sustainable Product Development".

The winning researchers each receive $25,000 and are designated "AT&T; Faculty Fellows in Industrial Ecology."

The AT&T; Foundation encourages academic research in Industrial Ecology by awarding these fellowships to advance this emerging field of study and to educate students on non-traditional ways of increasing both environmental and economic efficiency.
