FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Clean Your Air to Launch Million Dollar Multi-Media Campaign For Clean Electricity in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, Feb. 15 -/E-Wire/-- Clean Your Air (CYA), a campaign developed by the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition (MAREC), today announced that it will begin a million dollar multi-media campaign on February 18 in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets, designed to educate and persuade consumers to switch to clean electricity.
"This campaign is the biggest ever seen anywhere in the nation to support renewable energy,' said John Hanger, campaign spokesperson. "An unprecedented coalition of businesses, public interest organizations and governmental agencies has come together to educate the public that clean, renewable electricity can make a difference.
"The campaign is not your ordinary public interest campaign, however,' continued Hanger. "Our motto, "Do It!' and our campaign title, "CYA,' are intended to be provocative, and make viewers and listeners stop in their tracks and pay attention. And although we all know that issues like global warming and air pollution are not laughing matters, we also know the rule of Madison Avenue is that "laughing matters!' So we are inviting consumers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region to have a laugh, or at least a smile -- and help save the planet -- while switching to clean electricity.'
Clean Your Air is targeted at electricity consumers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, DC - states in which consumers have the ability to choose their electricity suppliers. Television advertising time has been purchased in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, with radio and print public service announcements scheduled throughout the region. All materials refer consumers to the website -- www.CleanYourAir.org -- for materials and assistance in switching to clean electricity. The website has specific sections for each electricity service area in the region.
The campaign was developed and produced by Elkman-Alexander/Partners of Philadelphia. Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) manages MAREC on behalf of the coalition. Funding and support for Clean Your Air comes from governmental agencies, foundations, public interest organizations and businesses throughout the targeted region. The largest financial supporters include the Sustainable Development Fund (Southeastern Pennsylvania), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy/Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and The Heinz Endowments. Other participants in the coalition include: Delaware Energy Office, D.C. Energy Office, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Partnership, The American Wind Energy Association, Center for Resource Solutions, Clean Air Council, Energy Coordinating Agency, GPU Sustainable Energy Fund (Met-Ed Region), GPU Sustainable Energy Fund (Penelec Region), N.J.
