EatSmart Debuts with All Natural Veggie Crisps, Organic Blue Corn-Tillas

HANOVER, PENNSYLVANIA, Feb. 18 -/E-Wire/-- Salty or unsalted. Less fat or homestyle. Full-flavored or lightly seasoned. The choices seem endless in most grocers' snack food aisles, but not in the natural foods section where there's a decided lack of both flavor and variety. So what's a snack lover to do when looking for tasty and healthful munchies in a selection of textures and flavors?

Snyder's of Hanover, makers of the leading pretzel brand in U.S. supermarkets, believes there's no reason why the same variety and savoriness found in traditional snack food aisles can't be features of the all natural sections, as well. So they're launching EatSmart, the first brand to offer a comprehensive line of all natural and organic snack items that are also flavorful.

"This new brand is intended to satisfy consumers' craving for a variety of snack food choices that taste good and are good for them," says Claude O' Connor, vice president of sales and marketing for Snyder's of Hanover. "Research has told us that Snyder's of Hanover is a trusted brand with a loyal consumer following, and EatSmart is an extension of our commitment to good-tasting, quality products. In taste tests, our EatSmart chips fared very favorably over their competition."

The EatSmart brand is being introduced with three new snack items: all natural Veggie Crisps, Organic Blue Corn-Tillas, and Organic Blue Corn-Tillas with Sesame Seeds. More new products are expected to appear in the lineup during the first half of 2002.

Veggie Crisps are a bountiful blend of ridged vegetable chips in potato, tomato, and spinach flavors. Made with 100 percent pure canola oil and fresh, garden-inspired ingredients, the all natural snack is low in saturated fat for more healthful munching.

Organic Blue Corn-Tillas are stoneground blue corn tortilla chips made with certified organic ingredients. Delicately prepared in organic vegetable oils, the extra-crunchy chips are available in traditional style or with sesame seeds. Additional varieties of Corn-Tillas made from organic white and yellow corn will be introduced later in the year.

Veggie Crisps and Corn-Tillas contain no preservatives or cholesterol. They're available now in supermarkets and health food stores.

Organic products aren't new for Snyder's of Hanover, which has been baking pretzels with all natural ingredients since 1909. In the fall of 2000, the company, known as "America's Pretzel Bakery," introduced a line of organic pretzels in several varieties including Mini, Honey Wheat Sticks, Oat Bran Sticks, and Unsalted Olde Tyme. Since that initial entry into the organic category, Snyder's of Hanover has doubled sales of the industry's organic pretzel category.
